THE BUILDING LIFE CONSULTANCY

The Building Life Consultancy by Architect Joseph Little is one of the foremost authorities on all elements of sustainability. Joseph has been commissioned by Derchil to carry out a number of studies some of which are detailed below:
- Suitability of differing areas on the island of Ireland for External Insulation
- As Ireland has a unique climate within Europe we asked the question of Joseph: Are all areas of the island suitable for external insulation?
- Investigation into the effects of thermal bridging on insulation systems
We require the highest standards be achieved on site, and so we enlisted The Building life Consultancy to design details that have become best practice in the industry
DEVELOPMENT
Derchil are actively engaged in the research of new materials suitable for facades of existing building stock in Dublin. Whilst this market is highly developed in mainland Europe, the drier climate there may mean a number of their products are not suitable to Irelands damper climate. Through our own research and testing by our Technical Partners we are ensuring any products specified or recommended by Derchil for projects in Ireland are suited to this climate.

We are currently embarking on a significant study of the effects of External Wall Insulation on private dwellings in Ireland. This study will answer questions about the performance levels of walls and houses before and after the measures have been completed, considering technical aspects as well astechnoecomonic aspects. Dr. Tony Robinson & Dr. Garret O Donnell of the Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering will lead this study for Trinity College Dublin.
In addition to the above, we are currently in the process of undertaking investigations with TCD to measure and quantify the thermal performance of varying insulation measures with particular focus on Irish building materials and construction techniques for domestic dwelling. Sophisticated measurement and analysis is ongoing with Dr. Tony Robinson, Dr. Garret O Donnell and colleagues in the Fluids & Heat Transfer Research Laboratory in Trinity College Dublin.

- ParexLanko are a French multinational company who produce a range of over 300 individual products. With no fewer than 5 state of the art laboratories in France, they have allowed us the use of these facilities and personnel to test different types of insulation with their render systems.
- Their ability to simulate differing climatic conditions over varying periods of time has enabled us to offer our clients expert advice on the best solutions for their building.
